The EU will automatically recognize Ukrainian electronic signatures from 2027
Electronic signatures from Ukraine will be automatically recognized in the countries of the European Union from 2027. The corresponding agreement was reached within the framework of the updated joint work plan of Ukraine and the EU in the field of electronic identification and trust services. About this reported press service of the Ministry of Digital Transformation.
“Ukraine and the EU have updated a joint work plan in the field of electronic identification and trust services. Most importantly, subject to the successful implementation of the Plan, next year the EU will recognize individual Ukrainian electronic signatures, seals and other trust services, and from 2027 all Ukrainian means of electronic identification will receive automatic recognition in the EU”, – the message says.
This will enable Ukrainians to use their own digital signatures without restrictions to sign documents, use European online services and conduct business within the EU.
As specified by the Ministry of Digitization, the updated plan provides for:
- assessment of Ukrainian legislation for compliance with EU requirements, in particular the eIDAS Regulation, the NIS2 Directive and the GDPR;
- approval of cooperation procedures between Ukraine and the European Commission;
- testing the compatibility of electronic trust services between countries;
- verification of bilateral interaction mechanisms.
Ukraine became the first country outside the EU whose electronic signatures and seals are already undergoing technical validation in the European Union. Today, Ukrainian users can already sign European-style documents with the help of Action.Signature-EU.
