One of the most effective ways the US can help Ukraine resist Russian aggression is by supplying US liquefied natural gas (LNG). This was stated by the head of the Office of the President of Ukraine, Andriy Yermak. informs Houston Chronicle.
In his opinion, large-scale and long-term gas purchases by Kyiv are not only beneficial for the USA, but also reduce Russia’s energy pressure on all of Europe.
“U.S. LNG exports to Ukraine will help stabilize the broader European market and undermine the voices of Europeans calling for the restoration of Russian gas supplies. In addition, stable U.S. LNG supplies will reduce price volatility and weaken Russia’s ability to manipulate energy markets through artificial shortages or price increases.” Yermak noted.
He is sure that Ukraine, as a consumer of LNG, could help the US become the main supplier of gas to Europe, strengthening its position in the competition. Currently, the Ukrainian government is “in the process of inviting” American LNG companies for negotiations.
In addition to imports, Ukraine has its own gas deposits, and the involvement of American business in its production can become another area of cooperation. According to Ermak, the agreement on global gas cooperation is “a win-win option for both countries with a positive effect that will be felt in the future.”
