Catastrophic situation with fortifications in the Kharkiv region: Iryna Gerashchenko (video)

People’s deputy Iryna Gerashchenko after visiting defense fortifications in Kharkiv region expressed deep indignation about the quality of fortifications in the region.

“We have just returned from Kharkiv Oblast. There are catastrophic problems with fortifications. Indeed, they have only just begun to dig them. Both the military and civilians have many questions – what criteria are used to build them, how these works are performed. We saw a bunch of money “buried” in the ground – when the VOPs are buried in the ground in the middle of the streets of populated areas, it is not clear why; when the “dragon’s teeth” are lying around, they crumble, it is not clear why“, – said the co-chair of the “European Solidarity” faction Iryna Gerashchenko from the rostrum of the parliament.

Disadvantages of fortifications

The deputy spoke about the problems she saw, in particular, “dragon’s teeth tufts”, which are already beginning to collapse and have been lying in piles for several months. Only now, in certain areas, these teeth are stretched by tractors and begin to be installed.

Disappointment of the military

According to Gerashchenko, the military considers this concrete object as planned vandalism and is forced to build an observation object nearby, on high ground, on its own. She also drew attention to ditches made of planks and sticks, which appear to be trenches and are located in the line of defense lines of Kharkiv.

Sharp questions

Gerashchenko raised a number of important questions:

• Why did a year and a half pass after the deoccupation of the region, but nothing was built or money was simply buried in the ground?
• Who is responsible for engineering works and the quality of fortifications?
• Who formed the technical characteristics of these buildings?
• How much money was spent and who benefited from it?
• Who will be responsible for these shortcomings?

Transfer of information to TSK

Gerashchenko transferred all the received information to the Temporary Investigative Commission (TCC) on fortifications for further investigation and bringing the guilty parties to justice. Also, the deputy hopes that the TSK, and from “European Solidarity” there is a military man – Mykhailo Bondar, will give answers to all these questions.

“We really hope for the active work of TSK. We really hope for the active work of TSK. Not in Kyiv, but in the regions, it is necessary to study how these fortifications are being built today, who is to blame for the fact that time was lost and who got their hands on it“, the deputy noted.

We will remind that in 2024 the government allocated 3.9 billion hryvnias to the Kharkiv Regional Military Administration (KHOVA) for the construction of fortifications. According to the project “Our money“, at the beginning of March, HOVA has already concluded construction contracts worth more than 2 billion hryvnias.

On March 14, HOVA chief Oleg Sinegubov reported that more than 27 companies and about 500 builders are involved in the construction. However, he did not specify the terms of completion of works, volumes and degree of readiness of objects.

In May, journalist Andrii Tsaplienko and the commander of the unit of the Armed Forces Denys Yaroslavskyi. The deputy head of HOVA, Roman Semenukha, explained that the fortifications built by the administration were occupied by the Armed Forces, and the work was carried out only on one of the defense lanes. Oleg Sinegubov confirmed this information and a warning against a hostile information and psychological operation.
