The National Bank of Ukraine sold $639 million in a week
In the period from June 2 to 6, the National Bank of Ukraine sold 638.8 million US dollars on the interbank foreign exchange market, without carrying out any currency purchase operations. This is evidenced by the updated data regulator.
The volume of currency sold during the week turned out to be 14.4 million dollars less than the previous week, when the NBU sold 653.2 million dollars. This may indicate a partial decrease in pressure on the hryvnia exchange rate or a more cautious policy of interventions by the regulator.
The National Bank continues to carry out currency interventions within the framework of the regime of controlled exchange rate formation.
We will remind that from October 2, 2023, the regulator abandoned the fixed exchange rate of the hryvnia, introduced in July 2022, and switched to a more flexible regime — with the ability to influence the market through the sale or purchase of currency.
In recent weeks, the NBU has been keeping the market stable without purchasing currency, covering the deficit by selling reserves.
