The conditions that Ukraine had to fulfill for the real start of negotiations on joining the European Union have already been fulfilled. Now the EU must fulfill its obligations, President Volodymyr Zelenskyi said during his daily address. He also emphasized that Ukraine deserves to join NATO in the near future.
“We remember what this year should bring us in a political sense. This is also the result with the European Union. Ukraine has fulfilled all the necessary conditions for the real start of accession negotiations, and now the EU side must fulfill its obligations,” – the president noted.
Also, the political leadership of the country is preparing for the new NATO summit, which is scheduled to be held in the summer.
“A strong political signal is needed – the Alliance should not be afraid of its own strength and hide from its own foundations. Every country that shares common values and is ready to really defend them deserves to be invited to the Alliance,” said Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
The president’s address also discussed other international events that will take place in the near future. In particular, he mentioned the active preparation for the summit, the key topic of which will be international efforts to end the war in Ukraine.
“We continue to prepare for the first, inaugural Peace Summit in June, and our team is now working, together with the teams of key partners, to make the Summit truly global. We can say for sure: all continents will be represented – different parts of the world, different views on global development But all of them are united by the same recognition that the UN Charter and basic international conventions are binding documents for every state in the world, including such as Russia, where madness reigns.
