Romanian opposition welcomes Vance’s comments about the cancellation of elections

Romanian opposition politicians have responded favorably to the statements of US Vice President JD Vance, who questioned the feasibility of canceling the country’s presidential election due to allegations of Russian interference. About this informs Hotnews.ro.

Yelena Lasconi, leader of the reformist opposition Union for the Rescue of Romania (USR), said Vance’s comments “confirm what my colleagues and I have been saying for so long: it is vital to explain why the election was annulled.”

“What JD Vance is saying now shows that Romania has not explained to its external partners, or even to its strategic partners, what happened last December,” – emphasized Lasconi.

Far-right pro-Russian Romanian politician Celin Georgescu welcomed the statements of US Vice President J. D. Vance on canceling the presidential election:

“US Vice President J.D. Vance exposed the abuse of democracy in Romania and Europe! Coincidentally, also today, the Romanian Constitutional Court told us in short that it does not care about democracy, dignity and strategic partnership.

What is the significance for the parallel state of what the American Vice President J. D. Vance, when down here you have the court’s response to the thousands of review requests filed by us, the Romanian people.”

We will remind that Celin Georgescu became the unexpected winner of the first round of elections on November 24. However, Romania’s Constitutional Court annulled the election on December 6 following reports submitted by intelligence services to the Supreme Council of National Defense and later declassified by former President Klaus Iohannis.
