This exchange was already the 59th since the beginning of the full-scale invasion of Russia. About this reported President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyi.

“These are the military – the defenders of Azovstal and Mariupol, the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant, Zmiynoye Island, from different directions of the front. Among them are soldiers, sergeants, officers. These are National Guardsmen, including “Azovians”, border guards, anti-terrorists, soldiers of the Navy and Armed Forces And also two civilians who were captured in Mariupol are waiting at home and loved ones. And it’s a joy that we managed to return them. Today, 189 families are happy.”, — said Zelensky.

The President emphasized that the Ukrainian authorities do not stop their efforts to free every citizen from captivity, because this is the main goal. He also noted that the exchange was made possible with the support of the United Arab Emirates.

The Coordinating Headquarters for the Treatment of Prisoners of War reported that this is the 11th exchange of prisoners in 2024. This time, 173 privates and sergeants, as well as 14 officers, were freed from captivity. In addition, two Ukrainian civilians returned home.

“Except for Mariupol and Snake Island, the freedmen defended Ukraine in the Donetsk, Luhansk, Kharkiv, Zaporizhzhya, Kherson areas, and the National Guardsmen were on duty to protect the Chernobyl nuclear power plant. We also returned those who were captured in the Kursk region.” – says the message.
