The Armenian authorities denied the information released by the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine regarding the active strengthening of the Russian military base in the city of Gyumri. Yerevan insists that the territory of the country will not be used to put pressure on other states of the region.
As stated in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Armenia, the widespread information is not true. Official Yerevan once again confirmed that the territory of Armenia is not and will not be a platform for any military operations against neighboring countries.
“The Republic of Armenia reaffirms its principled position: its territory cannot be used by third parties to conduct hostilities against any of the neighboring states.” – says the official response of the department, which is quoted as “News-Armenia».
We will remind, on July 5, Ukrainian military intelligence reported that the Russian Federation is accelerating the process of staffing the military unit in Gyumri, one of the key points of its presence in the South Caucasus. According to the GUR, such actions are part of a broader Kremlin strategy to increase pressure in the region and exacerbate the security situation.
The intelligence also noted that the activation of the Russian military contingent in this region is not an isolated case, but one of the elements of Moscow’s destabilization policy. The statement was made against the background of growing tension in relations between Russia and Azerbaijan, which arose after the incident with the murder of Azerbaijani citizens by Russian security forces.
It is also known that recently an attempted coup was discovered in Armenia itself, in the organization of which, according to the security forces, forces connected with Russia were involved. This only increases the internal tension in the country against the background of foreign policy instability.
