Germany to implement 50 military projects to help Ukraine this year
Germany plans to implement 50 projects of military aid to Ukraine by the end of the year, the total cost of which will be 1.4 billion euros. This was stated by Major General Christian Freuding, head of the special staff for Ukraine at the German Ministry of Defense, in an interview with the German RND network.
“The Bundestag has just approved us another 400 million euros, just for 2024. This will enable us to implement a total of 50 projects for a total of 1.4 billion euros this year.”, – reported Freuding.
He emphasized that Germany continues to provide significant military support to Kyiv, recalling the recent deliveries of two SLM and SLS Iris-T anti-aircraft systems. By the end of the year, it is planned to hand over two more anti-aircraft systems, several dozen infantry fighting vehicles and main battle tanks, as well as a significant amount of artillery ammunition.
Freuding noted a significant improvement in the situation with ammunition for the Armed Forces of Ukraine. If in the spring the superiority of the Russians in artillery was estimated as 8:1, now this figure has decreased to 3:1. This became possible thanks not only to international aid, but also to the expansion of Ukraine’s own production of ammunition.
Regarding the permission to use Western weapons for strikes on the territory of Russia, the general noted that this is a matter for other countries, because Germany does not provide weapons with such an opportunity, in particular, there are no plans to transfer Taurus long-range missiles. At the same time, Freuding emphasized that Ukraine is successfully hitting military facilities on the territory of Russia with the help of its own weapons.
We will remind you that the German budget for 2025 envisages a reduction of direct expenditures on military aid to Ukraine to 4 billion euros. However, the German government plans that Kyiv’s needs will be partially met by a $50 billion loan, which will be repaid from the proceeds of frozen assets of the Russian central bank.
