At least 79 cases of executions of Ukrainian soldiers by Russians have been confirmed in six months: Sybiha

Since the end of August 2024, at least 79 cases of executions of Ukrainian prisoners of war by the Russian military have been recorded. About this reported Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Andrii Sybiga.

The Minister noted that the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights confirms the increase in the number of executions of Ukrainian prisoners of war by the Russian military. According to Sybiga, these war crimes could become one of the largest campaigns of targeted killing of prisoners of war in recent history.

“These atrocities require urgent international action. The horrific shootings of Ukrainian prisoners of war by Russia demonstrate that Ukraine is confronting real beasts. The world must not only condemn, but also take urgent measures. We need new effective international legal instruments, concrete steps to bring the perpetrators to justice.” – he emphasized.

It will be recalled that the Russian Federation committed numerous war crimes during the full-scale invasion, including mass killings of civilians, attacks on schools, hospitals and other civilian infrastructure. The atrocities in Bucha, Irpen, and Mariupol, where torture, executions, and violence against Ukrainians were documented, became particularly resonant.
