Triumfland Saga: a game that improves the mental health of Ukrainian schoolchildren

Triumfland Saga, an interactive game for children aged 7 to 12, is launched on iOS and Android platforms as part of a new project to support mental health in Ukraine. The project, developed by Triumf Health with funding from the Estonian Center for International Development (ESTDEV), aims to help children develop resilience and emotional regulation skills. About this informs “Rubrika” publication.

Problems

According to UNESCO, 26% of Ukrainian teenagers suffer from post-traumatic stress disorder, and 75% of schoolchildren have experienced stress. At the same time, 54% of Ukrainian teachers experience professional “burnout”. These alarming indicators indicate the need to implement tools that will help improve the mental health of participants in the educational process.

Decision

Triumf Health, in cooperation with the Ukrainian organization “YA AND MY SCHOOL”, is launching a project aimed at supporting the mental health of children in Ukraine. The project covers schools that are most in need of such assistance, in particular in the de-occupied territories.

The project will last until the end of 2024 and will focus on two main areas:

  1. Creation of a training course for teachers and parents: a 25-part course on children’s mental health in Ukrainian will be available to teachers and parents, helping them to better understand and support the emotional state of children.
  2. Launch of the mobile game “Triumfland Saga”: The game will allow children in an engaging virtual environment to explore important aspects of mental well-being, including emotional regulation, stress management and the development of social skills.

How it works

As part of the project, webinars will be held for Ukrainian teachers, where they will be able to familiarize themselves with the training course and learn how to use the game in the educational process. Further, questionnaires and focus groups will be conducted to evaluate the effectiveness of the game and find ways to improve it.

So far, 370 teachers and 3,700 children from 75 schools from 19 regions of Ukraine, including Kharkiv, Kyiv, Chernihiv, Sumy, and Dnipropetrovsk regions, have joined the project.

The purpose of the project

The organizers of the project emphasize that their main goal is to help children feel happier and healthier, and teachers to support them in this.

The Triumf Health project received €116,790 in funding from ESTDEV and is part of a broader initiative to develop democracy and respect for human rights in Ukraine, based on Estonian best practices.

Call to action

For participants of the pilot project “Triumf Health for Ukraine” free access to the game “Triumfland Saga” was provided for one year. The organizers invite everyone to get acquainted with the game, pass tests and reveal their strengths. Game available in 9 languages, including Ukrainian.

“Triumfland Saga is not just a game, but an interactive educational platform that will help children develop emotional skills, self-confidence and the ability to overcome life’s challenges,” the organizers concluded.
