Democratic Senator Booker criticized Trump in his speech for more than 25 hours

US Democratic Senator Cory Booker set a record by delivering a speech lasting 25 hours and 5 minutes, in which he sharply criticized the policies of President Donald Trump. About this informs CNN.

In his speech, Booker warned about the negative consequences of the actions of the Trump administration for American society. The New Jersey Democrat surpassed the previous record held by the late Sen. Strom Thurmond, whose 1957 speech lasted 24 hours and 18 minutes, according to his office. 1,164 pages of material were prepared for the speech, and the senator covered a wide range of topics.

Although Booker’s speech did not formally become a procedural disruption of the vote, it effectively blocked the work of the Senate. The senator began the speech at 7:00 p.m. ET on Monday, promising to speak “as long as he is physically able” with, he said, “no more than a Bible verse in his pocket.”

In the speech, he declared that “the country is in crisis,” raising concerns about a range of issues from criticism of Elon Musk’s efforts to limit the role of the federal government to the potential curtailment of health care programs that provide for millions of Americans.

“In just 71 days, the President of the United States has done so much damage to American security, financial stability, and the fundamentals of our democracy. These are not normal times for America. And they should not be treated as such in the United States Senate.” – emphasized the senator.

Booker, who has represented New Jersey in the Senate since 2013, is the state’s first black senator and is one of five black senators in the 100-member chamber. A number of Senate Democrats, including Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, joined him on the podium in a long-overdue show of support.
