Airport in Moldova disrupted due to Ukrainian shelling

The technical problems that were recorded at the Chisinau International Airport were a consequence of the instability of the Ukrainian energy system after repeated Russian bombings. Several flights were canceled and airport services suffered major disruptions during passenger check-in. About this reported Volodymyr Bolya, Minister of Infrastructure and Regional Development of Moldova.

According to him, Moldova currently receives electricity through the Ukrainian power grid.

“After the bombings, there were dozens of power outages on the territory of Ukraine. These outages led to the ignition of some of the equipment at the airport. Although there are three electricity supply lines at the Chisinau Airport – one main and two backup, such a malfunction occurred. There are two reasons for this: the war and shelling in Ukraine and the the fact that in 30 years Moldova has not been able to build a line that would guarantee energy independence”. – said Bolya.

Several flights had to be canceled due to the incident on the airport’s central server, and there were complications in the check-in, passenger information and baggage processing processes. Some of the procedures, in particular the issuance of boarding passes, were performed manually. The government of Moldova intends to solve this problem by building an independent electricity supply line Vulcanest – Chisinau.

We will remind you that on the night of June 9, Russia carried out a massive attack on the territory of Ukraine, using 499 means of air attack, including missiles and drones. According to the Air Force of Ukraine, air defense forces managed to destroy 479 air targets.
