Donetsk media will not publish news for two days as part of the action of independent media

Several Donetsk media announced the “48 hours of silence” campaign to draw attention to the importance of supporting independent media. They will not publish news for two days to show what the information space will look like without them.

The publications “6262 Slovyansk”, “Free Radio”, “KramatorskPost”, “Slovyanski obstivi”, “PRO100media Kramatorsk” and “Obshezhitie” joined the campaign. The editors explained that these 48 hours without news is a symbolic gesture that emphasizes that independent media can disappear without the support of the public, businesses and partners.

“The media perform an important social function: we cover events in the city, talk about important community initiatives and problems. But this work requires resources. We adhere to transparency: we do not publish commissioned materials, do not place hidden advertisements, do not promote gambling and do not belong to politicians or oligarchs. Our independence is possible only thanks to our own earnings and the support of donor organizations.” – says the joint statement of the editors.

Journalists also said that you can support independent mass media through donations, partnerships, dissemination of information and subscription to their resources. The action will continue on February 11-12, however, in case of emergencies, the media will continue to inform about security issues.
