Foreign parcels: how not to become a victim of fraudsters?
Postal services are the most reliable carriers of parcels from abroad to Ukraine and vice versa. However, sending by mail is often quite expensive, so Ukrainians use the services of private carriers. Sometimes this is how you can run into scammers, when you lose both the package and the money for shipping. This can be prevented by using the services of proven carriers. You can get into another mess if you agree to transport someone else’s package.
After all, those who agree are far away forever “pass the bag”, know what is in the middle. If in this way prohibited substances or weapons are found in the shipment, the person who transported the parcel will be punished.
Customs officers advise Ukrainians not to transport other people’s goods abroad and not to import them into Ukraine. If you have already agreed to it, be sure to check what is in the package.
We will remind you that there have been more frequent cases when our fellow citizens misleading private “carriers” when sending parcels to Ukraine.
In order not to fall on the hook of fraudsters, you need to:
- check the carrier for reviews, or ask for recommendations from friends;
- if you found an ad on social networks, check the information about the carrier with the administrator of the group where the ad was published;
- rewrite the personal data of the person who takes responsibility for the delivery;
- draw up a receipt in an arbitrary form indicating the personal data of the parties, the delivery address, the estimated cost of the shipment, the amount paid for delivery services, the delivery date and the signatures of the parties.
There is also a scheme where strangers offer to buy goods for you in Ukraine and deliver them to EU countries. Be careful when sending prepayments: they can often be scammers. It is better to pay for the goods upon receipt.
