HACC plans to purchase apartments for judges worth UAH 60 million

In 2025, the High Anti-Corruption Court (HACC) plans to spend about UAH 60 million to purchase official housing for judges of the HACC and its Appeals Chamber. The flats are intended for new judges who will be appointed following a competition for vacant seats. This was announced by HACC Chief of Staff Bohdan Kryklyvenko during a meeting of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Legal Policy on 27 September.

Mr Kryklyvenko reminded that the purchase of office apartments is provided for in Article 13 of the Law on the High Anti-Corruption Court. According to this law, judges who do not have their own housing are provided with service apartments for the duration of their tenure. Importantly, these apartments are owned by the state and are not subject to privatisation.

“The law guarantees the provision of housing for HACC judges. It should be borne in mind that new HACC and AP HACC judges may come from different regions of Ukraine and therefore need to improve their living conditions,” Kryklyvenko said.

He also added that the purchase of apartments could be financed by the pledges collected by the court. As an example, on 23 September, the HACC recovered UAH 15 million of the bail posted by MP Andriy Odarchenko (Servant of the People), who later fled abroad.

As a reminder, the competition for 15 vacant positions of HACC judges and 10 seats in the Appeals Chamber was announced by the High Qualification Commission of Judges on 23 November 2023.
