Low-income people will receive more assistance for firewood and coal: the Government has decided

The Cabinet of Ministers decided to provide additional financial assistance for the purchase of solid fuel for heating within the framework of the memorandum between the UN Refugee Agency, the Ministry of Social Policy and the Pension Fund. Appropriate resolution No. 1169 was approved during the government meeting.
In accordance with message of the relevant ministry, this document will allow about 500,000 low-income households that receive benefits and housing subsidies to benefit from increased financial support. The amount of assistance will be determined individually, depending on household income, and may reach up to 21,000 hryvnias. The lower the family’s income, the greater part of fuel costs will be covered by the state and international partners within the established norms.
The regulation also provides that in the heating season of 2024/2025, benefits will be granted based on a minimum amount of heat equal to 12,064,500 Kcal (equivalent to 6.22 tons of freshly cut wood or 1.87 tons of coal). The indicator of 14,367,096 Kcal per household (equivalent to 7.41 tons of wood or 2.23 tons of coal) will be used to provide subsidies.
The marginal cost of solid fuel for support is determined at the level of 0.001239538695 hryvnias per 1 Kcal, and in the following years this indicator will be adjusted in accordance with inflationary changes.
The project will operate for several months, and payments are planned to be completed by the end of December this year. According to the resolution, the exchange of information and calculation of payments will be carried out by December 10 and 23, respectively.
