In June, 98 people died in Ukrainian waters, including eight children: State Emergency Service

State service for emergency situations reported about the alarming dynamics of people dying on the water — 98 people, including eight children, drowned in the country’s reservoirs in June 2025 alone. This is stated in the official summary published on June 28.
According to the rescuers, only in the last seven days, nine deaths were recorded, two of which involved children. In particular, the State Emergency Service recalls the tragedy of a 13-year-old boy who died while swimming in the river.
“Since the beginning of the year, the number of victims on the water has already reached 467 people, including 28 children. These numbers are impressive and emphasize the serious danger that water poses in the absence of elementary precautions.” – the service notes.
According to the State Emergency Service, the main reason for people’s deaths is neglect of safety rules during recreation. In many cases, tragedies occur due to bathing in unequipped places, alcohol intoxication, or leaving children without adult supervision.
Rescuers call on Ukrainians to be vigilant when near the water and not to risk their own lives and health for the sake of entertainment. In the address to the citizens, it is emphasized:
“No rest is worth living! Follow the safety rules! If you witness a person drowning, call 101 immediately.”
For comparison, in the first half of 2024, 672 people died in Ukraine, of which 76 were children. This shows that the problem remains extremely urgent, and preventive measures still do not give the expected result.
