Most Ukrainians communicate at home in Ukrainian, according to a survey  

According to the results of a new survey conducted by a sociological group “Rating”, 59% of Ukrainians communicate at home in Ukrainian. This indicates a steady increase in the popularity of the Ukrainian language and the fact that it is becoming the language of the majority in Ukraine.

The survey also showed:

  • 12% of Ukrainians communicate in Russian at home.
  • 28% of Ukrainians use both Ukrainian and Russian at home.

Language proportions differ in different regions of Ukraine:

  • Western regions: 93% in Ukrainian, 1% in Russian, 3% in two languages.
  • Eastern regions: 23% in Ukrainian, 25% in Russian, 51% in two languages.
  • Southern regions: 31% in Ukrainian, 22% in Russian, 46% in two languages.
  • Central regions: 67% in Ukrainian, 7% in Russian, 25% in two languages.
