In the German city of Osnabrück, they plan to evacuate 14,000 residents due to the danger of possible bombs from the Second World War. About 14,000 residents of Osnabrück were forced to leave their homes on Sunday. It is not yet known how long the decontamination operations will last.
Two hospitals and several homes for the elderly fell into the evacuation zone, including the districts of Fledder, Schinkel, and the city center. The city authorities note that the evacuation will affect 8,650 households and about 300 enterprises, reports Spiegel.
Hospitals will continue to work, but in a limited mode: emergency departments will not accept patients, except for the children’s polyclinic for emergencies.
Suspicious objects were discovered during the survey of the territory of the former cargo station, where the construction of a new district is planned. The main railway station will also be closed due to these works.
It is not known how long the decontamination operations will last. The works may drag on until late at night. An aid station was set up for evacuated citizens in one of the schools.
Earlier in Germany, bombs from the Second World War were found in the territories of medical institutions.
