January 27: holidays and events on this day

On January 27, the world celebrates International Holocaust Remembrance Day, World Breastfeeding Day, and Community Manager Appreciation Day.
Lewis Carroll was born on January 27, 1832 – a writer, mathematician, priest, world-famous author of the fairy tales “Alice in Wonderland” and “Alice Through the Looking Glass”.
International Holocaust Remembrance Day
This day reminds of one of the most terrible pages in the history of mankind, when millions of people became victims of genocide during the Second World War. From 1933 to 1945, the Nazi regime in Germany orchestrated the systematic extermination of Jews, Roma, people with disabilities, political opponents, and other groups the Nazis considered “undesirables.”
One of the symbols of this tragedy was the Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camp in Poland, where more than a million people were killed. It was the liberation of this camp on January 27, 1945 by the Soviet troops that became the date chosen for international commemoration of the victims of the Holocaust. This day is designed to preserve the memory of the dead and to warn future generations about the dangers of discrimination, hatred and xenophobia.
Interesting facts
This day was officially established by the UN General Assembly in 2005.
The Holocaust is considered the largest genocide of the 20th century, as a result of which approximately 6 million Jews died, including 1.5 million children.
The world community celebrates this day every year with a slogan that reminds us of the importance of preventing all forms of discrimination: “Never again”.
World Breastfeeding Day
This day is dedicated to the support and dissemination of knowledge about natural feeding, its extreme importance for the health of newborns and mothers. It is not only a reminder of its benefits, but also a call to create favorable conditions for mothers who choose to breastfeed.
Breast milk is a unique source of nutrients that provide the baby with everything necessary for growth and development. In addition, it contains antibodies that strengthen the child’s immune system, protecting it from infections and diseases. For mothers, breastfeeding is also important — it promotes faster recovery after childbirth, reduces the risk of developing certain diseases, and even has a positive effect on the psychological state.
Interesting facts
Breast milk contains all the necessary nutrients, such as proteins, fats, carbohydrates, vitamins and minerals, in the best ratio for the health of the baby.
The composition of breast milk changes depending on the age, needs and health of the child. For example, in case of illness, the number of antibodies in breast milk increases, which help the baby fight the infection.
Breast milk contains immunoglobulins, which help the child form a natural defense against viruses and bacteria.
Children who are breastfed are less likely to develop allergies, as breast milk helps to form a healthy intestinal microflora.
Breastfeeding reduces the risk of developing diseases such as obesity, type 2 diabetes, asthma and cardiovascular disease in adulthood.
The process of feeding helps to strengthen the emotional connection between mother and child, which positively affects the development of the baby.
Breastfeeding is environmentally friendly, it allows you to save on artificial formulas and reduces treatment costs, because breastfed babies get sick less often.
For women, breastfeeding reduces the risk of breast and ovarian cancer, promotes faster recovery after childbirth, and reduces the risk of osteoporosis in the future.
Studies have shown that children who are breastfed have higher levels of intellectual ability and perform better in school.
Day of appreciation for community managers
This day is dedicated to those who ensure activity, harmony and engagement in various communities – online forums, social networks, groups, chat rooms or professional networks.
Community managers, often referred to simply as admins, play a key role in the development and maintenance of communities. They organize discussions, moderate discussions, resolve conflicts and create a friendly atmosphere. Through their work, communities become a place where people can communicate, share experiences and knowledge, receive support and collaborate.
Today, in the digital age, the work of community managers is becoming increasingly important. They help brands build interaction with their audience, maintain activity in social networks, create content and respond to member requests. It is a difficult job that requires patience, a creative approach, communication skills and a constant willingness to help.
Interesting facts
The first community managers appeared back in the days of online forums and chat rooms in the 1990s.
Social networks such as Facebook, Instagram and Discord have greatly expanded the capabilities and functions of managers.
A good community manager is often a psychologist, marketer, and analyst at the same time.
In many companies, the work of the community manager has become an integral part of the overall brand development strategy.

Lewis Carroll’s birthday
Lewis Carroll (real name – Charles Lutwidge Dodgson) was born on January 27, 1832 – a man with extremely versatile talents: a writer, mathematician, priest and even a photographer. He invented his literary name in his youth: first he translated his name and surname into Latin, then changed their places, and then back-translated it into English. This is how the pseudonym Lewis Carroll was born.
Carroll is known throughout the world for the fairy tales “Alice in Wonderland” and “Alice Through the Looking Glass”, although he was a professor of mathematics at Oxford University by profession. At the same time, he accepted the priesthood, but in order not to work in the parish, he chose the rank of deacon, giving up the duties of a priest.
Carroll devoted a large part of his life to photography. He was so fond of this art that, when traveling, he always took the necessary equipment with him, which made his luggage extremely heavy. He set up a photo studio in his apartment and enthusiastically engaged in photography, which was very popular at the time. His works were distinguished by artistic taste. Among them were portraits of famous people, because Carroll was friends with many celebrities.
Once, Queen Victoria, interested in the work of the author of “Alice”, decided to buy all his books. She was delivered “Formulas of trigonometry”, “Explanation of the first part of algebra”, “Geometric symbolism”, studies of Euclid, mathematical charades, etc. – just a few books with fairy tales. Although few people read Carroll’s mathematical works, his fairy tales remain timeless and relevant.
In the English-speaking world, Lewis Carroll’s fairy tales rank third among the most cited books after the Bible and Shakespeare’s works. American science fiction writer Roger Zhelyazny considered Carroll’s books a model in the fantasy genre. For conspiracy theorists, it is interesting that Carroll was even suspected of involvement in the crimes of Jack the Ripper, although there is no evidence for this.
At the end of his life, Carroll was tired of the fame of the storyteller, which overshadowed his achievements in science, and even claimed that he had nothing to do with his tales. He died in 1898 of pneumonia in Guildford, where he was spending the Christmas holidays with his sisters. His work still inspires new generations, remaining a living example of the combination of science, art and fantasy.
“Don’t be upset. Sooner or later everything will fall into place and turn into a single beautiful scheme, like lace. Everything will become clear, because everything will be right.” one of the famous quotes is from Lewis Carroll.
