Paris will discuss the option of Ukraine’s accession to NATO in case of violation of the truce by the Russian Federation

On February 17, at a meeting in Paris, European leaders will discuss the possibility of Ukraine’s automatic accession to NATO in case of Russia’s violation of the ceasefire regime after the peace agreement is reached. About this informs The Guardian.

The summit, which will be held in the afternoon, will be attended by the leaders of Germany, Great Britain, Italy, Poland, Spain, the Netherlands and Denmark, as well as the President of the European Commission, the President of the European Council and the Secretary General of NATO.

During the meeting, defense capabilities that Europe can provide to Ukraine to ensure reliable security guarantees will be considered. One of the options is a plan for automatic membership of Ukraine in NATO in the event of a clear violation of the ceasefire regime by Russia.

The idea of granting Ukraine NATO membership on the condition that Russia violates the ceasefire was proposed by some American senators and received the support of some European leaders, in particular the President of Finland, Alexander Stubb.

Stubb warned about Russian ambitions, stressing that the Kremlin cannot be allowed to implement ideas about spheres of influence. He emphasized that any negotiations should guarantee Ukraine’s independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity.
