“Ukraine consistently fulfills its obligations under international humanitarian law, in particular the Geneva Convention of 1949, in terms of the treatment of prisoners of war. The conditions of detention of captured Russian servicemen meet the standards of international and national legislation. The Ministry of Justice ensures compliance with all stipulated rights and conditions.”, the ministry said in a statement.
The camps have sleeping quarters, dining rooms, medical centers, baths, libraries, bakeries, workshops, shelters, and infrastructure for people with disabilities. Prisoners are provided with clothes, hygiene products and three hot meals.

Prisoners are recruited to work in sewing, woodworking shops, in kitchens, in the production of packages, furniture, and New Year’s decorations. Those who are medically able to work are entitled to paid work six days a week.
“The amount of the reward is determined in accordance with the Geneva Convention and is at least a quarter of a Swiss franc per day. In April, the average earnings of prisoners ranged from UAH 1,500 to UAH 2,000.” – the department said.
In addition, the camps have libraries with books in different languages, rooms for watching TV programs, sports areas, rooms for religious needs. There are opportunities for intellectual development, leisure, sports, and board games. If necessary, prisoners can turn to religious figures or spiritual mentors.
