Two buildings were destroyed: the prosecutor’s office explained whether they will restore the Palace of Sports in Kharkiv

The rescue operations after the missile attack on Kharkiv have officially been completed. Dmytro Chubenko, the spokesman of the prosecutor’s office of the Kharkiv region, announced this during the broadcast of the telethon on September 2.

Eight hits by Iskander-M and S-300/400 ballistic missiles were recorded in Kharkiv, which caused serious damage, in particular, two buildings of the Sports Palace were completely destroyed. According to Chubenko, one of these buildings was used to train the region’s Olympic athletes.

He noted that due to extremely severe damage, these buildings cannot be reconstructed. Five direct hits were recorded on the territory of the Palace of Sports alone, several of which hit the building, sports fields and the surrounding area.

It is still difficult to estimate the exact material losses, but it is already clear that we are talking about tens of millions of hryvnias.

“These are millions of dollars for a complete restoration or construction of a new structure“, Chubenko emphasized.

The Sports Palace was one of the most popular complexes in Kharkiv, where concerts and sports events were regularly held. At the same time, the spokesman emphasized that residential buildings, supermarkets and a square are located near the complex, and there is no military facility in the area.

Since the beginning of the full-scale invasion of the Russian Federation, no mass events were held in the Palace of Sports due to the danger, only athletes and children’s teams trained.

According to the latest data, the number of people injured as a result of the shelling of Kharkiv on September 1 has increased to 44 people, including seven children. The youngest victim is only three months old. Mayor Ihor Terekhov reported on these tragic statistics, emphasizing the brutality of the attacks.
