In Ukraine, fire inspectors will be replaced by community rescue officers

As part of the reform of the civil defense system in Ukraine, a large-scale project was launched, the purpose of which is to strengthen the capabilities of local communities in the field of security and protection of the population. Within the scope of the project, fire inspectors will be replaced by community rescue officers, informs DSNS press office.

“The project will replace the outdated system of fire inspectors. Now each community will have a person who will be responsible for civil protection and assistance during emergency situations. This is to help people in crisis situations. Together with community police officers, who have already become a part of the life of every community, rescue officers will increase safety for each of us. Safety is the foundation for the recovery of our country, about peace and our future.” – said Minister of Internal Affairs Ihor Klymenko.

In light of hostilities, terrorist risks and landmine hazards, community security is seen as a key component of national resilience. Today, it is extremely important to approach this issue systematically.

“It is necessary to create all the conditions so that people know that their community is safe. A community rescue officer is a permanent, guaranteed presence of the state in every community in the most important issue – in the field of security.”, — noted the head of the State Emergency Service Andriy Danyk.

185 officers have already undergone specialized training, passed exams and received relevant certificates. They are already working in their communities, implementing a new model of the presence of the State Emergency Service on the ground and coordinating all areas of security within the Unified State Civil Protection System.

“Community rescue officer is not only participating in the elimination of emergency situations. It is important to ensure the integral functioning of the mechanism of the civil protection system – setting up an alert system, implementing measures to create protective structures, participating together with law enforcement officers in evacuation measures, preventive work with the population regarding actions in emergency situations. Specialists will also assess risks to prevent threats.”, – emphasized Viktor Vitovetskyi, acting director of the Department of Civil Protection and Preventive Activities of the State Emergency Service.

For high-quality performance of tasks, rescue officers will be equipped with digital tools: tablets with risk maps, drones and service cars. As part of the start of the project, the Minister of Internal Affairs handed over 12 specialized service vehicles to community rescue officers from Dnipropetrovsk, Donetsk, Zaporizhzhia, Poltava, Sumy and Kharkiv regions.
