Rescuers of the State Emergency Service under fire: rescue of the dead and search for the dead near Kramatorsk (video)

This story is not about a feat in the classical sense. This is a story about people who save lives every day without having the right to fear or despair. After another enemy shelling near Kramatorsk, the employees of the State Emergency Service worked without rest, sorting through the rubble and looking for those who might still be alive. Every minute was precious.
When the journalists of IA “FAKT” arrived at the scene of the tragedy, the rescuers were pulling out the body of the dead woman who was under the rubble of her own house. Her husband miraculously survived – a few minutes before the flight, he went out into the yard, where he was injured by shrapnel. Blood flowed down his face, but he did not take his eyes off the place where his wife was just a few minutes ago.

«I just went out… I went out for a minute… And she was inside…“, his voice trembled, but he held on.
People were working nearby, giving him first aid and looking for a woman.
«We are carrying out emergency and rescue operations to search for the injured woman. So far, only some fragments of her body have been found“, – said the deputy head of the rescue unit of the State Emergency Service Oleksandr Shvets.

Rescuers work in conditions where each subsequent blow could come at any moment. The explosions are often repeated just when they come to help the victims, but they did not stop.
«We don’t think about risks. There are people here. As long as there is a chance to find someone, we will work“, one of the rescuers told us, wiping dust and sweat from his forehead.
Their hands were black with dust, their eyes were exhausted, but there was no room for indifference. Only the desire to help, to find, to extract, to give relatives the opportunity to say goodbye.
The rescue operation lasted a long time. They worked among crushed walls, concrete slabs, burnt furniture, twisted metal fragments. All this was once a home, but now it has become a mass grave for those who did not have time to hide.
This day was similar to hundreds of others that emergency rescuers go through every day. They are not heroes in capes, not superheroes from movies. They are ordinary people who work where everyone is fleeing. Rescuers enter buildings that could collapse at any moment. They put a hand on the shoulder of a man who looks at the ruins of his life and does not understand how to live on. They silently close their eyes to those whom they could not save.

And tomorrow they will go again to the place where the explosions will thunder. Because those who need help will be waiting for them there. And they will be the first to come to the rescue.
