“Russia is in favor, but there are nuances”: Putin commented on the US initiative for a 30-day ceasefire

Russian President Vladimir Putin commented on the US initiative for a 30-day cessation of hostilities, saying that Russia is not against a ceasefire, but there are “nuances”. This was reported by the Russian state agency TASS.
“The Russian Federation agrees with the proposals to stop hostilities, but which lead to long-term peace and eliminate the causes of the crisis. Russia is in favor of a ceasefire, but there are nuances, including the Kursk region.” – emphasized Putin at a joint press conference with the President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko.
He stated that Moscow is ready to agree to a 30-day ceasefire, but puts forward a number of conditions. In particular, according to him, Ukraine should not mobilize, engage in military training or receive weapons from international allies during the armistice.
“We agree to the proposals for a cessation of hostilities, but we assume that this cessation should lead to long-term peace and eliminate the root causes of the crisis.” – said the head of the Kremlin.
Putin also said that Russia plans to determine its next steps to resolve the conflict, taking into account the situation “on the ground.” He noted that one of the conditions of the truce is the resolution of the situation in the Kursk region, which, according to him, remains tense. The Russian leader believes that Ukraine should decide what to do with the military in the region, and stated the need for clear agreements on the actions of both sides.
He also expressed concern that during the cessation of hostilities, Ukraine could use the pause to mobilize new forces and provide them with weapons. Putin questioned the possibility of effective control over compliance with the terms of the ceasefire and emphasized the need to discuss these issues with international partners.
“Who will give orders to cease hostilities? What is the price of these orders? The contact line is almost 2,000 km. Who will determine where and who violated it? We support the idea of a ceasefire. But there are issues that we need to discuss, and I think we need to talk with our American partners, maybe talk to President Trump on the phone.” Putin said.
In addition, Putin declared readiness for consultations with the American side, in particular, with US President Donald Trump. He also suggested that reaching an agreement with the US could lead to the supply of “cheap Russian gas” to Europe.
In turn, Lukashenko said that in case of agreements between the USA and Russia, the situation for Europe and Ukraine will become “difficult”. Putin agreed with this assessment, stressing the importance of dialogue with international partners to resolve the conflict.
