Duda refuses to hand over weapons purchased by Poland from South Korea to Ukraine
Ukraine asked Poland to hand over the weapons it had recently purchased in South Korea. However, Polish President Andrzej Duda clearly stated during his visit to Seoul that Warsaw cannot transfer these weapons to other countries, informs “Ukrinform”.
Duda explained that the weapons purchased in South Korea were purchased to protect Poland itself. He emphasized that these defense resources are financed from the state budget, which is filled by Polish taxpayers, so their transfer to any other country is not considered.
“My answer was unequivocal: as long as I am the president, we cannot hand over the weapons that we have purchased in recent years to strengthen the security of the Republic of Poland. I repeat once again about the billions of dollars from our common pockets, because they are the pockets of taxpayers“, Duda noted.
It is worth adding that South Korea is one of the leading arms exporters in the world, although it does not directly supply lethal weapons to Ukraine. However, Seoul previously reported that it is ready to consider helping Ukraine if Russia provides high-precision weapons to North Korea. Against the background of the latest reports about the probable participation of North Korean troops in the war against Ukraine, South Korea also announced the possibility of transferring “offensive” weapons to Kyiv.
In addition, South Korean media reports that Seoul may send its military to Ukraine to provide translation services or conduct interrogations if North Korean soldiers are captured.
