Russia proposes Ukraine hold next round of talks on June 2 in Istanbul

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Russia, Sergey Lavrov, said that the Russian Federation offered Ukraine to hold the next round of direct negotiations in Istanbul on Monday, June 2.

According to Lavrov, Russia has prepared a memorandum that sets out its vision “from all aspects of reliably overcoming the root causes” of the full-scale war it unleashed against Ukraine.

“Our delegation led by Medinskyi is ready to present this memorandum to the delegation of Ukraine and give the necessary explanations during the second round of renewed direct negotiations in Istanbul next Monday, June 2.” – he noted.

It also follows from his words that Russia is not interested in continuing the dialogue in Switzerland and the Vatican – locations proposed by Western partners – due to the fact that, according to Lavrov, these places are “not suitable” for negotiations between “two Orthodox countries”. Also, the Russian Federation has not yet submitted its proposals regarding the “ceasefire” to Ukraine.

“We expect that all those who are sincerely, and not just in words, interested in the success of the peace process will support the holding of a new round of direct Russian-Ukrainian negotiations in Istanbul.” – added the head of the Russian Foreign Ministry.

At the same time, the spokeswoman of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, Maria Zakharova, once again spoke out against the participation of the United States in the peaceful settlement and denied the possibility of their mediation.
