The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine calls on Hasidim to refrain from the pilgrimage to Uman on Rosh Hashanah

The long-term full-scale aggression of Russia against Ukraine creates serious threats to the life and safety of citizens, which makes it impossible to guarantee the safety of foreigners on the territory of Ukraine. This is stated in the official statements Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine.

In light of these threats, the agency is urging people to avoid traveling to Uman during Rosh Hashanah.

In the event that the decision on the visit is still made, it should be taken into account that Ukraine is under martial law, which imposes a number of additional restrictions and regulations.

The main factors that can complicate the stay of pilgrims in Ukraine and that must be taken into account when planning a trip include:

  • lack of civil protection facilities capable of providing shelter in places of mass gathering of pilgrims;
  • congestion of land routes of communication with Ukraine and possible significant delays of railway transport due to shelling of the infrastructure;
  • a limited number of medical workers and institutions, which makes it difficult to provide the necessary medical assistance to pilgrims;
  • the possibility of implementing additional requirements for entry and stay, such as online registration of foreigners.

Last year, more than 32,000 Hasidic pilgrims came to Uman to celebrate Rosh Hashanah, but in the current conditions, a trip to Ukraine becomes extremely risky.
