SBU and BEB exposed the chief financier of the Armed Forces brigade, who embezzled funds for the purchase of drones
Military counterintelligence of the SBU together with the Bureau of Economic Security eliminated the embezzlement scheme of funds intended for defense needs. It was on the territory of Kyiv region exposed the activities of the head of the financial and economic service of one of the Armed Forces brigades, who embezzled the money allocated for the purchase of combat drones.
In order to implement the fraudulent scheme, the officer made several deals with a company owned by his acquaintance at artificially inflated prices. During one of these episodes, almost 2 million hryvnias were appropriated – an amount sufficient to purchase several more batches of drones, which are urgently needed by the Ukrainian military on the front lines.
Forensic economic examination, initiated by the investigation, confirmed the fact of waste of budget funds. During searches, documents confirming the criminal scheme were seized from the suspects at their place of work and residence.
On the basis of the collected evidence, suspicion was declared against both persons involved – the financier of the brigade and his accomplice – under Part 5 of Article 191 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. This crime is punishable by imprisonment for up to 12 years with confiscation of property.
The investigation is ongoing, the law enforcement officers are taking measures to establish all the details of the case and to prosecute others involved. The operation was conducted under the procedural guidance of the Specialized Prosecutor’s Office in the field of defense of the Central region.
