SBU detained two Chinese citizens who were collecting secret information about the Neptune missile system

The Security Service of Ukraine detained two citizens of the People’s Republic of China, who are suspected of collecting and trying to transfer secret materials about the domestic missile complex “Neptune” to the special services of the People’s Republic of China. About this informs Office of the Prosecutor General.

On June 26, under the procedural guidance of the Kyiv City Prosecutor’s Office, one of the Chinese citizens was informed of the suspicion of espionage under Part 1 Art. 114 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. We are talking about a 24-year-old former student of one of the Kyiv universities, who was expelled in 2023 for failure. After that, he stayed in Kyiv and tried to recruit a Ukrainian related to the development of weapons for the Defense Forces of Ukraine.

The investigation conducted by the Main Directorate of the SBU in Kyiv and the Kyiv region established that the young man was collecting secret materials about the Neptune missile complex with the intention of handing them over to his father, a person with close ties to security agencies and the Chinese General Staff.

The “Neptune” complex is a unique Ukrainian weapon designed to destroy warships and amphibious ships, it was used to destroy the flagship of the Black Sea Fleet of the Russian Federation, the missile cruiser “Moskva”.

The suspect was detained while transferring data collected through contact with the Ukrainian military. He is currently in custody. His father is also involved in the case, who lives permanently in China, but regularly came to Ukraine to coordinate his son’s actions. He last arrived in the country on July 7, and already on July 8 he visited the Chinese Embassy in Kyiv. He was also detained as part of the investigation. The prosecutor’s office is preparing a suspicion of espionage and intends to appeal to the court with a request to take him into custody.
