The Verkhovna Rada proposes to reduce budget expenditures by UAH 628 million: details

Total cost reductions in the budget for 2024 will amount to more than 137 billion hryvnias, which reported Roksolana Pidlasa, head of the Parliamentary Budget Committee.

The deputy clarified that she made an amendment to the second reading of the draft law, which provides for an additional reduction of expenses in the amount of 628 million hryvnias. She emphasized that these funds are proposed to be used for the treatment of wounded servicemen.

Podlasa also explained the importance of reducing spending on non-military needs in order to free up resources that can be directed to providing defense forces. According to her, the country’s military expenses can only be covered by domestic resources, and therefore the redirection of funds is a necessary step to support the military.

“Part of social spending from the state budget for 2024 is also covered by domestic resources, as foreign funds are not enough. During budget planning, there was no confidence in the amount of foreign aid, so the redirection of non-military spending in this context makes sense.”, — Podlasa explained.

Bill No. 11417, which makes these changes to the budget, provides for cost optimization, in particular by reallocating funds from non-military items to defense needs.
