Scholz called on the Bundestag to recognize the war in Ukraine as an emergency

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, reacting to the latest events and US statements regarding the war in Ukraine, urged Bundestag to recognize this war as an emergency.
Scholz called on the Bundestag to pass a decision on recognizing the war in Ukraine and its consequences for the security of Germany and Europe as a state of emergency in accordance with Article 115(2) of the Basic Law:
“The Bundestag should as soon as possible pass a decision on recognizing the war in Ukraine and its serious consequences for the security of Germany and Europe as an emergency within the meaning of Article 115(2) of the Basic Law. This means that our support for Ukraine, which is today more important than ever, will no longer be carried out at the expense of other tasks that our state must fulfill in relation to its citizens.”
Scholz emphasized that no decisions about the future of Europe can be made without the participation of Europeans, and peace must be long-lasting and ensure the sovereignty of Ukraine:
“There is nothing about Europe without Europeans. It is clear that peace must be long-lasting. It must ensure the sovereignty of Ukraine. That is why we will never support the peace that will be dictated.”
He also emphasized that in addition to the search for a just peace in Ukraine, there are important issues of European security and the future of the transatlantic alliance. The chancellor emphasized the need to do everything possible so that there would be no more war in Germany.
“We must do everything we can to ensure that there will never be another war in Germany”, – noted Scholz.
According to him, now it is about the fate of peace and security in Europe. In order for Europe to remain an equal ally of the US, it must do much more.
