After the Christmas attack of the Russian Federation, Biden instructed the Pentagon to increase the supply of weapons to Ukraine
US President Joe Biden announced the decision to instruct the Ministry of Defense to increase the supply of weapons to Ukraine. The decision was taken in response to a massive Russian airstrike on the night before Christmas. There was a corresponding statement published on the official website of the White House.
Biden strongly condemned the Russian attack on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure, during which Russian forces used more than 70 missiles and more than 100 attack drones. According to the Ukrainian authorities, this is already the thirteenth large-scale attack on the country’s energy system in 2024.
“The purpose of this horrific attack was to cut off the Ukrainian people’s access to heat and electricity in the winter and to jeopardize the security of the (Ukrainian) network. Let me be clear: the Ukrainian people deserve to live in peace and security, and the United States and the international community must continue to support Ukraine until it defeats Russia’s aggression.” – said the president.
Biden also mentioned the assistance that the United States has already provided to Ukraine, noting that hundreds of missiles for air defense have been delivered to Kyiv in recent months, and new deliveries are already being prepared. The total amount of support provided by Washington to Ukraine since the beginning of the full-scale invasion in February 2022 has reached about 175 billion dollars.
“I instructed the Ministry of Defense to continue to increase the supply of weapons to Ukraine, and the United States will continue to work tirelessly to strengthen Ukraine’s position in its defense against Russian forces,” – concluded Biden.
