The Cabinet of Ministers expanded the list of minerals of national importance

The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine adopted a decision to expand the list of minerals of national importance. About this reported representative of the government in the Verkhovna Rada, Taras Melnychuk.

The updated list includes natural hydrogen, gas from tight reservoirs and cesium ores. The initiative to expand the list belongs to the State Geology and Subsoil Service. It was aimed at including “current minerals of various origins, taking into account modern trends.”

Tight gas is a non-traditional source of natural gas. It is found in rock with low permeability, such as sandstone or limestone, and requires the use of specialized technologies to extract it—including horizontal drilling and hydraulic fracturing.

Cesium ores are the basis for obtaining cesium, which is widely used in the production of optical devices, electronics, atomic clocks and other high-tech fields. Hydrogen is a gaseous natural element used as a fuel, in the chemical industry and for the synthesis of various substances.

We would like to remind you that since 2024, the approach to prospecting in the field of subsoil use has changed in Ukraine. The Verkhovna Rada decided to direct state funding to the identification of promising deposits that may be of interest to investors. Further exploration work should be financed by the subsoil users themselves — at their own risk, without involving funds from the state budget.
