On May 1, a well-known activist, Serhiy Sternenko, was assassinated with a firearm. Thanks to the professional and immediate actions of the SBU employees, the attacker was arrested on the spot. About this reported SBU press office.
“Employees of the Security Service prevented the murder of the well-known public activist and volunteer Serhiy Sternenko. Today, an attempt was made on him with a firearm. Thanks to the professional and prompt actions of the SBU officers, the attacker was arrested on the spot. Serhiy Sternenko’s life is currently not in danger.” – says the message.
Currently, operative and investigative actions are ongoing, about the course of which the law enforcement officers will inform separately.
“I was attacked. I am injured. Everything is ok, there is no threat to life”, – reported Serhiy Sternenko himself, clarifying that the injury was “light”.
Later, he noted that “the attacker has been detained”, thanking the Security Service of Ukraine for the “lightning reaction”.
“If it weren’t for them, I wouldn’t be able to write anything. They literally saved my life.”, the activist added.
Serhii Sternenko is a public figure and volunteer who started his public activity in Odessa. He was among the leaders of the local branch of Euromaidan. In 2018, he was already the subject of several attacks, which he associated with his public position and protests against illegal construction in Odesa.
