Ukrainian refugees, who were forced to leave their homes because of the war, face numerous difficulties not only during relocation, but also in the process of adapting to a new life in other countries. In addition to finding housing and work, a different mentality, learning a language and integrating into local communities, there are serious challenges related to security and protection of rights. At the same time, they were afraid to refuse or directly express their dissatisfaction due to fear of possible consequences.

One of the refugees said she felt uncomfortable when Day began intensively monitoring her social media profile, liking her posts and sending messages. She was especially surprised by his persistence when he started communicating through a dating app, where the messages were even more candid. The woman admitted that after the war and stress in the new country, she longed for peace, but this situation created additional pressure and fear.

Another refugee, who later left Scotland, also spoke about her experience with Day. She noted that she did not know how to behave in this situation in order to avoid a conflict. Only after moving to another country was she able to feel relief, but she expressed concern that the official’s similar behavior could affect other Ukrainian women.

The scandal with Cammy Day caused a wide resonance in society. After the allegations were made public, the politician was suspended from his duties and the police launched an investigation. His conduct over the past 18 months is now being reviewed, including other possible incidents of harassment. However, this incident shows once again how important it is to have mechanisms in place to protect refugees who find themselves in a vulnerable situation.

Ukrainian women who come to other countries often face misunderstanding, mistrust or even hostility. In such circumstances, it is extremely important that they have access to organizations that are ready to provide legal, psychological and social support. In addition, cases of abuse of power by officials must be strictly controlled, and accountability for such behavior must be inevitable.
