The Czech Republic offers Ukrainian refugees a new status: long-term residence

The Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Czech Republic proposes to grant special long-term residence permits to Ukrainian refugees who meet certain conditions starting next year.

Only those who:
• Lives in the Czech Republic with temporary protection for at least 2 years
• Has economic independence
• Provided housing
According to the estimates of the director of the Consortium of Non-Governmental Organizations, Andrey Krkhova, out of more than 342,000 refugees with temporary protection who are currently in the Czech Republic, about 20,000 people will be able to fulfill these conditions.
“A person who wants to obtain the right to a long-term stay should not depend on social assistance payments. The amount that confirms economic independence is currently set taking into account the standard of funds, the availability of which is required to be proven from all foreigners who apply for a long-term stay in the Czech Republic“, Krkhova informs.
According to the Ministry of Labor of the Czech Republic, about 110,000 refugees from Ukraine are economically active. These people pay taxes and other contributions to the Czech budget. At the same time, a significant part of refugees works in low-paid positions.
