The country’s main Christmas tree was officially opened on Sofia Square in Kyiv. The solemn event, as every year, was dedicated to St. Nicholas Day. About this reported the mayor of the capital Vitaliy Klitschko.
This year, like last year, the Christmas tree is artificial, but its height is 15 meters; it is three meters more than the previous one. A special feature of this year was the snow-white theme, which gives the tree a symbolic meaning.
“The white color symbolizes the beginning of a bright and clean path, reminding of the renewal that Christmas and the New Year bring. Such a symbolic design is combined with the majestic facade of Sophia of Kyiv”Klitschko explained.
The Christmas tree is decorated with a two-kilometer long light blue garland and two thousand turquoise toys. Next to it, a photo zone called “Wings of the Phoenix” has been set up, which already attracts residents and guests of the city with its festive atmosphere.
The mayor noted that the decoration of the Christmas tree was fully financed by patrons, without using funds from the city budget. The symbolic design of the Christmas tree harmoniously complements the majestic facade of Sophia of Kyiv, creating a unique festive mood.
At the same time, this year’s celebrations will take place taking into account safety requirements and the power saving regime. There will be no mass events, fairs or entertainment programs in the city, but the spirit of the holiday will remain unchanged.
