The Ministry of Foreign Affairs denied information about Ukraine’s plans to create a nuclear bomb

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs denied the information published in The Times that Ukraine plans to create its own nuclear bomb in the event of a reduction in military aid from the United States.

Ukraine has no intention of creating nuclear weapons and remains faithful to its obligations under the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons. This position confirmed the spokesman of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Heorhiy Tykhy, stating that Ukraine does not possess, does not develop, and does not intend to acquire nuclear weapons.

“Ukraine is committed to the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons; we do not possess, do not develop, and do not intend to acquire nuclear weapons.

Ukraine closely cooperates with the IAEA and is fully transparent in its monitoring, which excludes the use of nuclear materials for military purposes.” – said George Tykhi on his page in the social network Kh.

He also noted that the country closely cooperates with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), maintaining full transparency of its activities, which excludes the use of nuclear materials for military purposes.

This statement was made against the background of publications by the Times, which reported that, according to an analytical note prepared for the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, the country is theoretically capable of creating a simple nuclear bomb in a few months. Such a bomb could be compared to the one that the USA dropped on Nagasaki in August 1945. However, the document suggested that such actions could begin only if the newly elected US President Donald Trump stops or significantly reduces military aid to Ukraine.

The article also noted that Ukraine could use plutonium extracted from the spent fuel rods of Ukrainian nuclear reactors to create a nuclear charge. According to journalists, the amount of plutonium that Ukraine has could theoretically be enough to create hundreds of nuclear warheads.

However, Ukraine’s position remains unchanged: it continues to comply with international obligations and cooperates with the IAEA, assuring the world community of its peaceful approach to the use of nuclear technologies.
