The National Bank sued the ex-owner of PJSC “VAB Bank” for 1.2 billion hryvnias

The Pechersk District Court of Kyiv decided to recover 1.2 billion hryvnias from the former owner of PJSC VEB Bank Oleg Bakhmatyuk in favor of the National Bank of Ukraine. About this informs NBU press office.
“The judicial review of this case has been ongoing since 2015, and during this time, Oleg Bakhmatyuk’s representatives and his related companies actually delayed the legal process by their actions, while at the same time trying to avoid fulfilling their obligations under the loan agreement and the guarantee agreement.
And although it is still too early to put an end to this case, the National Bank successfully defended its rights as a creditor in the court of first instance and did not allow Oleh Bakhmatyuk to evade responsibility for unfulfilled obligations.” Serhii Boyko, Head of the Department of Legal and Judicial Work with Troubled Assets of the Legal Department of the National Bank of Ukraine, said.
We will remind that in 2014, PJSC “VEB Bank” signed an agreement with the National Bank to obtain a stabilization loan in the amount of 1.2 billion hryvnias. Oleg Bakhmatyuk acted as guarantor for his return, signing the corresponding surety agreement with the NBU, thereby taking personal responsibility for repaying the financial institution’s debt.
Since neither the bank nor its owner fulfilled their obligations, in 2015 the National Bank filed a debt recovery lawsuit.
Currently, five more cases are pending in the Pechersk District Court of Kyiv based on the claims of the NBU against Bakhmatyuk, which relate to the debts of PJSC “VEB Bank” and PJSC “Commercial Bank “Finansova Initiativa”. The total amount of debt, which the National Bank is trying to collect through the court, is about 7.9 billion hryvnias.
