The area of demined agricultural land has increased significantly in Ukraine

In Ukraine, the area of demined agricultural land has increased significantly. According to the state compensation program, 426 applications were received from citizens for the demining of agricultural territories, and in 2025 more than 1.5 thousand hectares were cleared. About this reported Volodymyr Bayda, director of the Humanitarian Demining Center (HMD), on the air of the telethon.

“Currently, there is quite a lot of progress in the program. During the entire period of operation of the program, we have already received 426 applications, which covered more than 14,000 hectares of agricultural land (before that, only 3,000 were released in three years). 65 auctions have already been held, and contracts for them have been signed for a total amount according to the program already for 835 million UAH. As for the freed (from mines – ed.) territory – more than 1.5 thousand hectares have already been freed this year”, – noted Bayda.

According to the director of the Center for Humanitarian Demining, 3 billion hryvnias were allocated to the implementation of the program this year.

“Agrarians are much more active this year. If last year eight out of 85 operators took part in the auction, now there are already about 20.” Bayda emphasized.

He specified that out of 235 submitted applications this year, 110 were rejected due to the lack of a non-technical land survey.

“This is the first step that a farmer must go through to submit land for compensation and to recognize it as potentially contaminated or contaminated, so that experts can first check it,” – explained the director of the Central Regional Development Authority, stressing that humanitarian demining is carried out according to international standards all over the world.
