The second suicide of a cadet in a week occurred at the National Academy of Border Guard Service

Within one week, the second suicide occurred among cadets of the National Academy of the State Border Service of Ukraine named after Bohdan Khmelnytskyi.

As reported the spokeswoman of the Specialized Prosecutor’s Office in the field of defense of the Western region, Yuliya Shevchenko, on Saturday, April 19, around 6:20 p.m., the body of a 19-year-old cadet was found in the area of ​​responsibility of the Chernivtsi border detachment. According to preliminary information, he committed suicide by shooting himself in the head with a regular weapon that was entrusted to him during his service.

“At the moment, an investigative team is working at the scene together with forensic experts, an inspection of the scene is being conducted. After the completion of the primary measures, the issue of registration of criminal proceedings under Part 1 of Article 115 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine with the note suicide will be decided.” Yulia Shevchenko said.

According to her, the pre-trial investigation will be carried out by investigators of the district police department under the procedural guidance of the Chernivtsi specialized prosecutor’s office in the field of defense of the Western region.

This is the second case of the death of a cadet of this academy in recent days. The previous tragedy occurred on April 17 in Khmelnytskyi, where the body of a 20-year-old cadet with a gunshot wound to the head was found. It turned out that he also shot himself with a weapon that he received for carrying out daily duty.

The reasons and circumstances of both cases are currently being established.
