The Parliament of Georgia deprived of the mandates of 49 opposition deputies

On February 5, the Parliament of Georgia suspended the powers of 49 deputies. In particular, the powers of members of three opposition coalitions – “Unity – National Movement”, “Coalition for Changes” and “Strong Georgia” were suspended. About this informs “Exo Caucasus”.

The basis for this decision was the demand of the coalitions for the termination of powers, with which the opposition politicians appealed to the parliament in November of last year. Currently, the “Gakharia for Georgia” party, which has 12 mandates, remains in the Georgian parliament.

The political association created by former Prime Minister Giorgii Gakharia, like other parties that passed the passage barrier in the October 26 elections, considers the voting results illegitimate and refuses to participate in the work of the parliament. At the same time, the representatives of this party did not submit applications for the appointment of deputies.

According to the results of the parliamentary elections of 2024, according to the official protocol of the CEC, the party “Strong Georgia” received 14 mandates, “Coalition for Changes” – 19 mandates, “Unity – National Movement” – 16 mandates.
