In the new theater season, the Kyiv Youth Theater plans to launch a competition aimed at young directors. Currently, the theater is working on the preparation of the regulations for the competition. About this reported Stanislav Moiseev is a director and the newly appointed director is the artistic director of the theater.
“We will not rush, but I think by the New Year, in October or November, we will launch it.” Stanislav Moiseev noted.
The head of the Young Theater explained that the format of the competition may include the selection of two dramatic texts, which will be offered to young directors for creating small productions. After watching these sketch performances, the theater will decide who to invite for further cooperation.
“I already had such an experience – one of the first competitions in Ukraine, which we did with the British Council. There they offered three or four plays by modern British playwrights, and several directors took part. That is, this approach justifies itself.” Moiseev emphasized.
Conducting directing contests to update the repertoire is a common practice for theaters. In particular, from 2022, the Theater on the Left Bank is holding the festival “Customs House. New Directing”, which opens up opportunities for the development of young directors in theater art. This project is a continuation of the Eduard Mytnytsky Memorial Festival “Master’s Space”, started in 2021 by Stas Zhirkov and Tamara Trunova.
