Trump files lawsuit against TV channel for interview with Harris demanding $10 billion in compensation

On Thursday, US presidential candidate Donald Trump filed a lawsuit against the US television company CBS, demanding compensation in the amount of $10 billion over an interview with Vice President Kamala Harris broadcast by the channel. This was reported by CNN.
According to the lawsuit filed in the District Court for the Northern District of Texas, Trump’s legal counsel claims that Harris’ interview on CBS’s 60 Minutes programme is “unlawful interference with the electoral process” and is intended to “mislead the public”.
Trump’s side also sees the interview as an attempt to influence the presidential election in favour of Harris.
The lawsuit states that Trump is demanding that CBS release the full, unedited version of the interview transcript.
The case will be heard by Judge Matthew Kaczmarik, who was appointed by Trump during his first presidential term.
The reasons for filing the lawsuit in Texas have not been specified, but this choice may indicate a strategic filing of lawsuits in courts where there is a greater likelihood of a favourable outcome for the plaintiffs.
Earlier, Trump claimed that CBS had significantly edited Harris’ interview under the influence of her campaign, and even called for the channel’s licence to be revoked. In response, a CBS spokesperson said that Trump’s accusations against 60 Minutes were false.
‘The interview was not edited, and the programme did not conceal any part of the vice president’s response to the questions asked,’ the representative added.
