Trump imposes 35% tariff on imports from Canada

The USA announced the introduction of new trade restrictions. In particular, President Donald Trump introduced 35% duty on import of goods from Canada.
As Trump noted, the US will impose a 35% tariff on Canadian imports next month. In a statement, he told Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney that the new tariff will take effect on August 1 and could be increased if Canada retaliates.
In response, Carney assured that the Canadian government will protect its workers and businesses during negotiations with the United States:
“Canada has made important progress in the fight against fentanyl in North America. We are committed to continuing to work with the United States to save lives and protect communities in both of our countries.”
In his statement, Trump also raised concerns about the alleged flow of fentanyl from Canadian territory, as well as about tariff and non-tariff restrictions that he believes harm American dairy producers and other industries.
In addition, Trump said in an interview with NBC News that he intends to impose general tariffs of 15% or 20% on most trading partners.
“We will simply say that all other countries will pay either 20% or 15%. We will decide now.” – emphasized Trump.
