Ukraine asks the IAEA to check the damage to the diesel tank at the ZNPP

Ukraine asked the IAEA to verify the data on the damage to the diesel fuel tank at the temporarily occupied Zaporizhia NPP and to provide an assessment of the potential consequences of the accident. About this during the briefing stated the spokesman of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, Heorhiy Tyhiy.

“Yesterday, I reported on the damage to the diesel tank at the ZNPP. We quickly turned to the IAEA with a request to verify the information and assess the consequences of a possible accident due to the mission that is directly at the occupied ZNPP. And we are now waiting for reports and updates from the IAEA on this matter.” Tykhy said.

He noted that Ukraine is discussing with the IAEA the likelihood of similar incidents in the future, given the fact that the station is managed by unprofessional, third-party personnel without the appropriate license. According to the spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ukraine, together with the IAEA, conducts a humanitarian cooperation aimed at the release of the employees of the ZNPP who are in Russian captivity.

“We have opened a separate track of interaction with the IAEA, a humanitarian one, where we discuss the possibility of returning captured and illegally imprisoned employees of the ZNPP to the controlled territory. Ukraine is fighting for all its people, civilians and military, and ZNPP employees. This is part of our dialogue.” Tychy emphasized.

It will be recalled that on March 26, the spokesman of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Georgy Tykhiy, reported that a tank with diesel fuel was damaged at the Russian-occupied Zaporizhzhya NPP. According to him, the leak was enough to ensure the operation of emergency generators for 25 days.
