Ukraine has proposed that the EU jointly extract critical minerals on its territory

Prime Minister Denys Shmiagl said that Ukraine is ready to create joint ventures with the EU for the extraction of strategic minerals on its territory. About this informs Political.

“Ukraine has 22 of the 30 minerals that the European Union considers to be of critical importance. We have the largest reserves of lithium in Europe, and its use in the world is only growing. While 460 thousand metric tons of lithium carbonate were consumed in 2021, the global demand is projected to reach 6 million tons by 2030. We are ready to create joint ventures in this field, which will undoubtedly will lead to a strategic advantage for the EU”, Shmyhal noted.

Also, according to the Ukrainian Prime Minister, Ukraine ranks first in Europe in terms of reserves of uranium ore, which allows not only to meet its own energy needs, but also to export uranium. This is especially relevant against the background of the growing demand for nuclear energy in Europe.

In addition, Ukraine is among the top ten countries with proven reserves of titanium ore, and only 10 percent of these proven reserves are currently being developed.

“We could replace Russian titanium in the European market, contributing to the development of both EU civilian industry and advanced military technology. Not to mention that, unlike the Russian partnership, which is based on blackmail and deception, we can be relied on.” Shmyhal stressed.
